About the trip
Socorro is a world-class dive destination, yet few realize it belongs to an expansive offshore archipelago deep in the Mexican Pacific.
The Revillagigedo National Park, 250 nautical miles off Baja California, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an extraordinary sanctuary for marine life.
Expect unmatched shark diversity, ridiculously curious bottlenose dolphins, and the friendliest oceanic manta rays you’ll ever encounter underwater.
Visiting Revillagigedo is a genuine must-do for any serious diver. Get ready for the ocean experience of a lifetime!

The Eastern Pacific
Rising from the depths of the Eastern Pacific, the Revillagigedo Islands sit at a major junction of the North Equatorial Current, the North Equatorial Countercurrent, and rotating eddies formed by the California Current System.
These interactions, combined with steep volcanic seamounts and deep ocean basins, drive local upwelling and concentrate nutrients. A convergence that fuels one of the Pacific’s richest pelagic ecosystems.
Across the national park’s four major islands Clarión, Roca Partida, San Benedicto, and Socorro, powerful currents draw in oceanic manta rays, up to ten shark species, the most curious dolphins, and even seasonal whalesharks.
All of this wildlife converges around volcanic structures that rise sharply from the deep.

Oceanic manta rays
Oceanic manta rays are the true icons of the Revillagigedo archipelago.
Nowhere in the Eastern Pacific offers encounters as intimate and consistent as here. To date there are three described species of manta ray roaming our oceans.
The Mobula birostris is the planet’s largest species of ray, reaching wingspans of up to 7 meters.
What makes Revillagigedo unique is the mantas’ remarkable curiosity. Encounters here allow divers to witness these animals at an astonishingly close range.
Individuals tend to approach divers directly, slowing down as if inviting interaction, and often circling dive groups repeatedly,

Sharks sharks sharks
The offshore waters surrounding the park consistently deliver world class encounters with pelagic species, year-round.
Iconic species such as hammerheads, Galápagos sharks, silkies, whitetips, silvertips, and even the occasional tiger shark roam these volcanic slopes.
Divers often witness natural behaviors rarely seen elsewhere: sharks being cleaned by reef fish, hammerheads moving in loose schools along the current line, and silkies following groups of tuna and wahoo through the open ocean.
The experience is truly adventurous, the currents, the depth, the sheer energy of the place are remarkable.

Bottlenose dolphins
Dolphin encounters in Revillagigedo are among the most memorable experiences for divers.
The islands are home to highly interactive pods of bottlenose dolphins, known for their inquisitive behaviour and remarkable curiosity towards humans.
Unlike many locations where dolphins keep their distance, the pods around Socorro often seek out divers on their own terms.
Prepare for dive briefings reminding you to never touch wildlife, even if the wildlife touches you!

Whalesharks
Whale sharks are a spectacular seasonal highlight of the Revillagigedo Archipelago.
Perfectly timed, our trip falls right within the peak of whale shark season.
Socorro sits in a major pelagic migration route. November coincides with broader whale shark movements across the eastern Pacific.
The animals use the area as a temporary feeding stop as changes in currents and water mixing increase nutrient availability around the islands.
This fuels plankton blooms & where plankton concentrates, whale sharks follow.
Sea surface temperatures in November are warmer and comfortable for whale sharks & us!
