Fuvahmulah
Located 500 km south of Malé, Fuvahmulah is renowned as one of the world's premier shark diving destinations.
Its unique underwater topography, with a reef plunging into ocean depths, attracts a rare mix of pelagic marine life.
Surrounded by deep ocean waters, Fuvahmulah benefits from nutrient-rich ocean currents. These currents create an ideal environment for cleaning stations and nurseries, supporting a diverse array of pelagic species.
The island's waters are a haven for oceanic megafauna such as thresher sharks, oceanic manta rays, and whale sharks.
Most notably, Fuvahmulah is famous for its resident tiger sharks, which can be observed daily, year-round, making it a must-visit destination for adventurous scuba divers.
Tiger Sharks
Fuvahmulah is rapidly gaining recognition as the premier destination for shark diving in the Maldives.
Thanks to the island’s distinctive underwater topography, it hosts one of the healthiest populations of tiger sharks in the region, with over 200 individuals identified so far.
This makes tiger shark encounters a certainty at Tiger Harbour, the island’s iconic dive site.
We are going for four tiger shark dives here!
Pelagic diving
Fuvahmulah is also celebrated for its pelagic diving, offering some of the best scuba experiences in the Maldives.
Seven rare shark species, including the elusive thresher shark, are frequently spotted at the island's dive sites.
While thresher sharks typically dwell in deeper waters, they are drawn to the shallower cleaning stations, allowing divers a rare chance to see them year-round, similar to the tiger sharks.
More sharks
From January to May, Fuvahmulah also becomes a hotspot for majestic whale sharks, the gentle giants of the ocean.
Additional shark species, including silvertip, grey reef, and white tip sharks, further enhance the island’s rich marine ecosystem.
For those seeking the ultimate diving adventure, Fuvahmulah offers unparalleled dive sites that showcase the Maldives’ incredible marine biodiversity.
