Praia do Tofo
The ocean surrounding Tofo Beach is renowned for its world-class diving with megafauna.
What makes Tofo so special is its year-round sightings of marine megafauna, such as whale sharks and manta rays.
The nutrient-rich waters around Tofo are full of plankton which attracts mantas and whale sharks who come to the area to feed.
It is also one of the few places globally where you can see both species of manta rays: the Oceanic and reef manta ray!
As a matter of fact, the discovery and distinction of the two species happened in these waters.
Humpback whales
Humpback whales embark on extensive migrations, traveling between polar feeding grounds in the summer and tropical or subtropical breeding grounds in the winter.
The waters off the coast of Mozambique have been identified as a significant breeding area for humpback whales.
Morungulo and Tofo, the main focus of our expedition, provide the perfect nesting grounds for pregnant females who give birth to their babies in the shallow reefs off either coast.
These birthing grounds offer our guests some of the most spectacular in-water interactions in the world of whale sightseeing.
Accompanied by our professional guides, you will have the opportunity to experience up-close and personal interactions with these magnificent creatures.
Whalesharks
Mozambique is home to three unique aquatic ecosystems, each offering its own breathtaking wonders.
One of the most incredible experiences here is the chance to observe massive whale sharks up close while snorkeling or scuba diving.
This encounter is truly magical and has the power to be a life-changing experience.
These gentle giants travel long distances to feed and can be found in Mozambican waters throughout the year.
Particularly the Praia do Tofo area is home to this ocean giant.
Small eyed stingray
Stepping away from our established ocean favorites Tofo holds a treasure unknown to the masses! It is the only place on the planet you can regularly see the small eyed stingray - the world’s largest and rarest ray.
Lucky divers have also been known to have seen hammerheads, bull sharks, marlin and more!
Praia de Morrungulo
Only a short 2.5 hour drive away from Tofo, I want to take you to an even wilder place that gifted me my most unforgettable ocean moments until this day.
Let me introduce you to Morrungulo Beach.
Away from the crowds, this place is one of a kind and a secret gem along the Mozambican Pacific.
In a country of magnificent beaches, Praia de Morrungulo easily holds its own as one of the most beautiful.
Experience pristine, white sand that seem to never end along infinite coastlines with one or two cows passing through dense stands of coconut palms.
An African wildlife adventure of a lifetime.
Wild side diving
I could not believe my eyes when I realized how far offshore we would be diving during my time in Morrungulo. What a thrill to head all the way out on the ocean to explore dive sites only very few people have seen before!
Morrungulo diving happens along a 20km long offshore plateau with depth ranges of 10 to 30 meters.
Twelve different dive sites have currently been discovered and there's many more to be found.
This means that Morrungulo reefs are truly untouched with an abundance of ray species such as Oceanic and reef manta rays, eagle and whiprays.
Be ready to descend through crowds of game fish including massive groupers that might come closer than you anticipate.
You might get to the seafloor seeing leopard sharks in a mating dance, oceanic manta rays cruise by and schooling eagle rays to welcome you down to some of the planet's most wild places.
The Mozambican coastline is furthermore home to sharks, turtles, dolphins and fantastic humpback whale diving from July – late October.
Morrungulo will quickly become a highlight of Mozambican diving.
